Tonight I watched the Kennedy Center Honors. One of the interesting comments during the night was “Why should we honor people who are already famous and rich?” It is indeed an interesting question. I do find the arts an interesting take on society as a whole. In a world where we rush from place to place and moment to moment, the arts are designed in a way to provide us a break. To provide us a memento of some moments and a referendum on others. Yet without taking time to notice these moments on our own we are sometimes in need of others with talents so vast that they cause us to stop what we are doing and pause. We don’t always recognize these moments, but when we do the very fact that we stopped is reason to support their art.
