Have you ever counted the number of blocks along a sidewalk? Or noticed the number of cracks in the concrete? While possibly less exciting than the “take time to smell a rose”, by counting the number of cracks in concrete, people can become aware of their environment. I like to think of it as a sign of just how small we are in life. Sort of like the guess how many skittles are in a bag or how many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop? Yet with concrete if you take the time to really pay attention to how many of a small thing there is in your life compare that to the size of the entire world. How many individual grains of sand exist in the world? Then imagine that each grain of sand is about how big the earth appears in a galaxy, and the again that inside of the total universe. If you had to imagine the world in a matter of counting, what would you count with?
