Day 19 Funny

Knock. Knock. How else do you start a post about being funny? Sure there are times when only I understand the joke, but that’s part of being a little kid at heart. Seriously, just ask anyone under the age of 10 to tell you a joke sometime, they’ll always find it way more hilarious than you. Really though one of the things that I find the most common for me is to have a good time by telling jokes. Sure sometimes jokes fail, but life is a learning experience. If it wasn’t for people doing stupid things we wouldn’t have jokes about people walking into bars.

I suppose being funny has a lot to do with the fact that when you grow up with blonde hair you are inevitably going to hear blonde jokes. So you can either take it personally or you can learn to enjoy a joke. Besides the only reason blonde jokes are so simple is so brunettes can understand them. More than anything though I feel as though making people smile and part of the moment is a true form of emotional connection. It might sound lame, but there are few things as meaningful as getting someone to give you an honest smile and laugh.

I think it’s possible to be funny in the moment, and for it later to not translate. Granted there are times when you think things are funny and it might be somewhat serious. Like those moments that happen all the time when watching people do things like skateboarding and someone inevitably goes BOOM. Of course sometimes there are jokes that only a few people understand, when that happens IT’S THE BEST. In fact half the time it makes it even more funny when there are things only a small handful of people get. That’s my kind of funny.

But of course I might be biased about whether or not I’m funny so I’ll leave it up for you to decide. Since it wouldn’t be fair to tease with a knock knock joke and not answer it, I’ll leave you with one of my favorites.

Knock. Knock.

Who’s there?

I am.

I am who?

You mean you don’t know who you are?
