Chances are if you ever see me I’m probably wearing sweatpants or athletic shorts. It’s really not that surprising that someone who has played sports for most of their life would gravitate towards athletic apparel, but I do it because it’s comfortable. I find myself feeling restricted or abnormal when I am forced to wear more restricting or more properly tailored clothes.
The comfortable doesn’t stop with just the clothes I wear. It also expands into the foods I eat, the activities I participate in, the people I surround myself with. I want to to be comfortable and I go with what I know. New situations and new surroundings and new people while they can be good, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be better than what I already know. This isn’t to say that I’ll never try new things or meet new people. Rather it means that I have a lifestyle that I enjoy already, so I need to have a reason to want to do something outside of my comfort zone.
If you’ll remember I’m a very biased person, so people trying to push me out of my comfort zone isn’t a very good strategy if I think what I’m doing is already good. Equally having a comfort zone always people to feel secure. It’s from this zone that they are able to explore the world and try new things and expand that zone. If what they discover they don’t like they can always retreat back to where they are comfortable.
If you step out of your comfort zone today, leave a message in the comments telling us how.
